        <title>Cytology Technologist</title>

        <description>North Shore University Hospital is the cornerstone of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System.  Our 788 bed tertiary care facility is also an academic campus for New York University School of Medicine.  Long dedicated to providing the best care possible, the hospital was ranked among the nation&apos;s Top 50 Hospitals for cardiac services and open heart surgery by U.S. News and World Report, and boasts numerous other distinctions.  It is a demonstration site for the latest equipment and procedures including one of the New York area&apos;s first 64 slice CT scans.  It also offers care in advanced medical specialties including maternal fetal medicine, bone marrow transplants, and houses the Don Monti Oncology Center.  The hospital is a designated Level I Trauma Center and is recognized as a unique provider for HIV/AIDS patients.  The Schwartz Ambulatory Center performs 10,000 procedures annually.  The hospital continues to meet the needs of the underserved members of the community through a comprehensive network of 65 clinics.
 
In this role,  the Cytology Technologist  will:

    * Participate and coordinate  specialized and complex microscopic screening of all cytology preparations for the evidence of cancer, neoplasm or other disease processes
    * Assist Radiologists and Pathologists with fine needle aspiration biopsies. 

This position is per diem.
 

Qualifications
 

    * High School Diploma or equivalent, required.  Bachelor&apos;s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, preferred. 
    *  Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Cytotechnologist (or as appropriate to area of assignment), required.
    * Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above, required.

        <title>Cytology Supervisor</title>

        <description>Responsibilities
	Prepares human cells for examination:  logs specimens which include assigning specimens accession numbers, writing in patients name, age, source of specimen and cytologic diagnosis; processing of specimens including spindown of specimen, making smears from specimens, staining smears or specimens, fixing specimens so cells are preserved. Determines pathological conditions: microscopic examination of all specimens submitted for cytologic examination; identification and interpretation of gynecologic specimens, such as pap smears are within normal limits; identify and mark the diagnostic cells in all specimens that are not within normal limits; reviews previous cytology cases; coordinates any clinical data that may be pertinent to the diagnosis; refers all abnormal gynecologic and other specimens to the pathologist for interpretation. Assists with certain biopsy procedures:  this includes accompanying physician to patient location and making smears as physician aspirates material.

BS in Cytotechnology with (CT) ASCP required.  5-6 years of full-time active participation  as a cytotechnologist in a major hospital to include GYN, fluid and FNA cytologic experience required.
